2011 Post-Trip

White Water Rafting and Adventure Post-trip

September 5-7, 2011

Don’t want the fun to end?  Enjoy a couple of more days, and a lot more adventure, with your Mosaic friends!  Check out the itinerary we’ve prepared for you!

Monday:

We’re off to the New River Gorge for an amazing whitewater raft trip on the Class 3, 4, and 5 rapids of the Lower New River through the Grand Canyon of the East!  After departure from Camp Rim Rock on Monday morning, our vans will head towards the ACE Adventure Center at the New River Gorge.  We’ll stop for lunch, check into our bunkhouse at ACE, then enjoy an afternoon hike on one of the lush trails overlooking the gorge or a visit to Thurmond, WV, a real early 1900's ghost town.  At 5:00 pm, you will have your choice of a canopy tour, paintball, or just relaxing.  Dinner will be at 8:00 pm in the on-site restaurant, followed by our own campfire.

Tuesday:

In the morning, we’ll enjoy breakfast at ACE, then head out for a full day of rafting on the Lower New River, one of the best whitewater rivers in the country!  Our guides will provide a hot riverside lunch at the midway point on the banks of the river.  We should be back to ACE by about 5:00 pm, and we’ll have plenty of time to be seated at their extravagant buffet dinner at about 6:00 pm.  After dinner, relax around the campfire, interrupted only by a night hike and some stargazing.

Wednesday:

Most likely we’ll have to leave early Wednesday morning to head back to Dulles airport to catch our flights, so we won’t have time to do much on Wednesday.  Depending on the number of participants, number of vehicles, and flight times, we may be able to enjoy part of the day before heading back to the airport.

Cost:

The price of this amazing package is $209, and includes a guided raft trip on the Lower New River, two nights bunkhouse lodging, two breakfasts, one hot riverside lunch, one buffet dinner, afternoon hikes, a ghost town visit, nightly campfires, and round trip transportation.  Optional activities for Monday evening will include a canopy tour ($62) or paintball ($42) from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, followed by dinner at the resort.  You will be buying lunch and dinner on Monday at your own expense as well as any meals after Wednesday breakfast.  This is a great value, since the cost of the all-day rafting alone is $135!

Transportation:

We can accommodate those flying into Dulles, and a limited number flying into BWI. If you are flying in for the event and attending this Post-trip, you may save a lot of money by flying Southwest into BWI. They are usually cheaper than the major airlines.  In addition, there is no baggage charge (for two checked bags).  Also, by attending the Post-trip, you will be flying back on Wednesday, Sept 7, when airfares are much cheaper than on Labor Day.  If you will be attending the Post-trip, and want to fly in and out of BWI, you must arrive BWI by about 2:00 pm on Thursday, Sept 1.  Regardless of which airport you will be flying out of on Wednesday, Sept 7, please try to book the latest flight out, but make sure that it’s after 4:00 pm.

Contact:

Please contact Rick Dronsky, the Post-trip leader, with any questions, or to confirm that space remains from BWI (there is no space limit from Dulles).  Call Rick at 954-435-3388, or email at vp@southfloridamosaic.org.
